Your Skylight 2000 Editors
Meet Ray and Marie, your new Skylight 2000 Editors
MEMBER PROFILE

Hi, my name is Ray and I have been a member of Parkstone Camera Club since August
2008. I have been taking photographs (or should I say snapshots) since about 1988.
My first proper camera was a Nikon 35mm SLR, followed by a Canon EOS100, with my
interest in computers all film used with the Canon was copied to CD for digital
manipulation, which was amazing to be able to change or improve my images in photoshop.
Since then I really wanted to get a digital camera, an Olympus compact point and
shoot was the first and later in 2007 I bought a Fuji Finepix S9600 with a 28-300mm
fixed lens. Always using auto made me a very lazy photographer and never even considered
light and all the setting options etc, as these new digitals take care of all of
that for you, although I have been disappointed with a lot of the photographs not
turning out as well as I’d hoped, so I decided to do something about it which
is why I joined Parkstone Camera Club. I enjoy the club evenings and find them educational
and it helps that the other members are a friendly lot.
When the post of Skylight editor was mentioned and a volunteer was needed, I decided
that with my previous experience with websites and desktop publishing that I may
be able to help and become more involved, a way to give something back to club as
well as being able to get to know the other club members a little better.
MEMBER PROFILE

Hi I am Marie and I am a relatively new member of the Parkstone Camera Club. I joined
in October 2008. I wasn’t too sure at first if I would be welcome here due
to not owning a SLR digital camera. I spoke to John Hyde several times before coming
along to the cheese and wine welcome evening. I was a bit concerned that maybe I
was out of my depth. Rest assured I had a backup plan. I came along on the first
evening with 10 mounted photos of swans. They were taken with my camera which is
a Kodak Z650 what you might say a bridge camera.
I have been taking photos constantly for 10 years with a compact camera; I have
had experience with film SLR cameras before and have been in the dark room making
contact sheets and test strips for black and white images.
I have been involved with writing news stories, design web pages, marketing and
advertising, throughout my work history. I decided to take the Skylight editor position
so that I could develop the skills I have learnt and give something back to the
club. I love writing and being creative and combining the two made sense.
